Last week news

Two astronauts stuck in space.

As crazy as this may sound, it is true. The 5th of June, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, were the first two astronauts to test the new Boeing Starliner spacecraft. They managed to successfully arrive to the ISS. But the Starliner suffered helium gas leaks and issues with its thrusters.

NASA wants to investigate what is the cause behind this, but they can not land the spacecraft, as in doing so, some essential evidences will burn, making the original cause untraceable.

These two astronauts have now stayed for 75 days in the ISS, when it was supposed to be only an 8-day mission. These two astronauts, are uncertain of when they will come back, as NASA and Boeing, figure out what to do.

For the time being, they are with another 7 astronauts in the ISS, and are completely safe. In the case of an emergency, they can come back in the Starliner. And if that was not the case, being rescued by the SpaceX Dragon capsule is an option.

Upcoming events

  • Blue Supermoon, 19th August.

A once in a decade occurrence. A combination of a Blue Moon and a Super Moon.

Blue Moon: this is considered when there is a full moon for the second time in a month, or, as in this case, when it is the third full moon in a season where there are four full moons.

Super Moon: this occurs when the Moonโ€™s orbit is closest to Earth. When there is a full moon, and we have the Moon closest to Earth, we see the Moon massive, that is where the term Super Moon comes from.

Todayโ€™s wallpaper is from Andrew McCarthy.

In this beautiful image, he captured The Pillars of Creation.

The pillars are about 5 light-years in length, while the whole nebula (Eagle Nebula) is about 75 light-years big and located 7000 light-years away from Earth.
